New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the French city of Marseille on 12 February 2025 as part of his three-day visit to France. During his visit, he highlighted that freedom fighter VD “Veer” Savarkar had once made a daring attempt to escape from there. The warmth and softness of the shawl come from the finest Pashmina wool, sourced from the undercoat of Changthangi goats found in the Ladakh region.

The word Kani comes from the Kashmiri term for “small wooden bobbins,” which are used in the weaving process instead of traditional needles.
Kani Kashmiri shawls are among the most expensive in the world due to their intricate craftsmanship. They are available only in select stores or by special order, with production times ranging from six months to two years, depending on the complexity of the design.
