Explosive report claims India star made BCCI pay for 250kg luggage on Australia tour

New Delhi: A shocking report has made a sensational claim about a star Indian cricketer who carried 27 bags to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The BCCI paid for the luggage, which reportedly weighed over 250kgs. According to an explosive report in Dainik Jagran, the luggage included not just the bags of the player but also his family members and personal staff.

The report also revealed that this incident might have prompted the Indian Cricket Board to unroll the new set of rules, which also included a cap on the weight of luggage the players can carry for overseas assignments. According to the new BCCI rule, the board would only bear the cost for luggage, up to 150 kg.

17 bats, luggage of family and personal staff

According to the report, the bags consisted of a whopping 17 cricket bats, as well as other items of the members of the player’s family and personal staff. BCCI policy states that the luggage belonging to a player’s family and personal staff should be carried separately. But, the player tagged it as part of his luggage.

The report also claims that the family members of the player were with him during the entire tour as BCCI bore the cost of carrying the player’s and his family members’ luggage from India to Australia and vice-versa and from one city to another Down Under. The money spent by the board is expected to be in lakhs.

Other team members also followed a similar approach which forced the BCCI to put certain rules in place.

Since the new rules have come into effect, the players are required to travel through the team bus for matches.

For the ICC Champions Trophy, the BCCI has issued a strict diktat of not allowing family members of the players to accompany them on the tour. According to a PTI report, a senior player tried to convince BCCI to allow his wife to fly with him to Dubai but the board refused his request.

The bags reportedly consisted of a whopping 17 cricket bats, as well as other items of the members of the player’s family and personal staff.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
