New Delhi: English county cricket club Lancashire on Friday confirmed that the RP-Sanjiv Goenka (RPSG) Group has agreed to buy the stakes in Manchester Originals, one of the eight existing franchise teams in The Hundred (the innovative cricket tournament of the England and Wales Cricket Board).
The group led by Indian businessman Sanjiv Goenka also has investment in other franchise cricket teams across the globe such as the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Durban’s Super Giants (DSG) in the SA20.
The RPSG Group has got into an exclusive period deal after the completion of the team auction organised by the ECB. The stakes for the Indian-based multinational conglomerate will be 70 percent in the Manchester Originals team whilst the remaining 30 percent will stay with the Lancashire Cricket Club.
“The investment provides Manchester Originals with a global sporting partner which shares the Originals’ aspiration to become a major part of the sporting landscape in Manchester – one of the world’s leading sports cities – alongside its two famous football clubs,” LCCC said.
The RPSG Group had keen interests to purchase the London Spirit (which is a Lord’s-based team) but couldn’t win the bids against the Silicon Valley consortium, which includes the top global tech firms such as Microsoft and Google. According to a report by BBC Sport, the RPSG Group’s agreement includes 70 percent stake to pay over £80m for the Old Trafford-based franchise.
Manchester has a rich sporting legacy, and we are delighted to be part of it with #ManchesterOriginals. The Hundred has immense potential to drive cricket’s global expansion, and I’m excited for what lies ahead. Looking forward to the 2025 season! https://t.co/M7qVXXfhz1

We are committed to developing a deep bond with the players, support team and the whole community at large. We believe in excellence and see a huge potential to deliver good quality cricket for generations to come,” said Shashwat Goenka, the vice-chairman of RPSG group.
The RPSG Group, led by Sanjiv Goenka, has acquired a 70% stake in the Manchester Originals cricket team in England’s The Hundred tournament. This significant investment, reportedly exceeding £80 million, adds to the group’s existing portfolio of franchise teams.
