New Delhi: Alejandro Garnacho’s reaction to being substituted against Ipswich Town caught attention, but Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has made it clear that the situation has been resolved. The 20-year-old winger was taken off shortly before half-time after Patrick Dorgu’s red card, with Amorim opting to bring on Noussair Mazraoui to maintain United’s defensive shape. Instead of sitting on the bench, Garnacho walked down the tunnel at Old Trafford, and later that night, he posted a picture of himself heading inside on Instagram.
Amorim initially said he would speak to Garnacho about the incident, and on Friday, he confirmed that they had discussed it. The United boss explained that Garnacho went to the dressing room to change because his kit was soaked, watched the rest of the match from inside, and then joined his teammates at full-time. Amorim insisted there was no serious issue but reminded the young Argentine about the importance of perception at a club like Manchester United.
Alejandro Garnacho makes amends with team dinner
🚨 Rúben Amorim: “Garnacho came to me. It was funny. I did some investigation and he went to the dressing-room and so changed his clothes because he was wet”.
“He watched the game, not on the bench, and at the end of the game he was there and went home”.
To move forward from the incident, Amorim decided that Garnacho should pay for a team dinner as a way of making amends. The manager stressed that young players will make mistakes, but they must learn to handle frustration better, especially at a club where every action is scrutinised. He also pointed out that emotions run high in football and that similar reactions have happened before with other players.
With the matter settled, United now shift their focus to the upcoming fixtures. They face Fulham in the FA Cup on Sunday before travelling to Spain for a Europa League last-16 clash against Real Sociedad. After that, they return to Premier League action with a huge game against Arsenal at Old Trafford.
