New Delhi: Vidarbha batter Karun Nair continued his sensational form in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 final against Kerala at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on Saturday, March 1. With this hundred, Nair has guided Vidarbha into a strong position as they are looking to win their third Ranji Trophy title.

Heading into the Day 4 of the Ranji Trophy final, Vidarbha had a slim 37-run first innings lead after Kerala bowled out for 342 runs. Sachin Baby scored 98 runs off 235 balls with the help of 10 boundaries, and Aditya Sarwate also amassed 79 runs off 185 balls.

Vidarbha was in big trouble as they lost two big wickets in the second innings. Jalaj Saxena removed Parth Rekhade on 1 run while MD Nidheesh dismissed Dhruv Shorey on 5 runs. Danish Malewar forged an 182-run partnership with Karun Nair for the third wicket.

Nair missed out on a hundred in the first innings due to an unfortunate run-out at 86, but he played brilliantly in the second innings. He started his knock cautiously and played through Kerala’s in-form bowling attack. Nair completed his century in 184 balls with a single through mid-wicket.

His stunning knock helped Vidarbha to take a 200+ runs lead. He has been in sublime form throughout the domestic season and surpassed 8000 first-class runs in his 152nd appearance. The 33-year-old has also notched up 800-plus runs for the first time in a Ranji Trophy season.

Karun Nair’s phenomenal run in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Nair got spotlight during the Vijay Hazare Trophy where he finished the tournament with 779 runs in just eight innings at an outstanding average of 389.50 and an impressive strike rate of 124.04. Nair played the final in his debut first-class season in 2013-14 as Karnataka defeated Maharashtra to clinch the title. He became the second Test triple centurion of India after Virender Sehwag, scoring an unbeaten 303 runs against England in Chennai.
