New Delhi: The success stories of the young kids in the News9’s Indian Tigers and Tigresses campaign have been nothing short of inspirational. TV9 Network’s one-of-a-kind football talent hunt initiative has proved to be a revelation in the Indian sporting landscape, with approximately 50,000 registrations in eight scouting camps across the country as kids from 16000 schools thronged the trials.
Almost 3,000 girls and 7,000 boys were shortlisted after the registration process, but only 32 made it to the finals after a series of rigorous trials across the country.
Prabhjot Kaur and Amrit Pal Kaur are among the select few who are among the elite list of young players who will get the golden opportunity to train with the best in the business in Austria.
From Kotla to Austria: The inspiring journey of Prabhjot and Amrit Pal
Selected from the Punjab trials, Prabhjot and Amrit Pal’s story is nothing short of extraordinary. Both girls studied in the same school and trained in Kotla, a village near Ludhiana. While Prabhjot called Kotla home, Amrit Pal travelled two kilometers from Todarpur to study and train.
Both studied in the same school and were coached by Amarjeet Singh in Kotla. The coach saw something special in the ‘Kaurs’ and identified them as different from others and very smart.
Talking about Amrit, he said: “Amrit is so passionate about learning that if she did not have any resources to come to the ground, she would run away from her village (which is 2 kilometers away) to come. While talking about Prabhjot, he said that she is from a very poor family, but her passion for learning has brought her to this position.

Amrit and Prabhjot’s school principal, Gurjant Singh, who is also a former national champion in cycling, said: “Our school is very proud of these two girls. They have brought glory to the family as well as the school.”
While Prabhjot’s father worked as a daily wage laborer, Amrit Pal’s father worked endless hours as a truck driver. But despite all the challenges, the ‘Kaurs of Kotla’ chased a different future – one with a football at their feet and a fire in their heart.
From practicing in narrow lanes to training under the best, both Prabhjot and Amprit Pal have come a long way thanks to their hard work, passion and determination.
