New Delhi: In a landmark move poised to significantly impact the landscape of Indian football, Manchester City FC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with West Bengal Mamata Banerjeee to establish their first football academy in India through a partnership with the Techno India group in Kolkata.
The formalization of this agreement took place in London, a symbolic setting that underscores the international significance of this collaboration. Mamata Banerjee, who was in the UK seeking investments to bolster her state’s economic and developmental prospects, expressed her satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “I am happy with the development.” This sentiment reflects the potential of this initiative to not only cultivate football talent but also to foster broader socio-economic benefits within West Bengal.

The partnering institution, Techno India Group, are currently managing multiple educational institutions, including colleges, universities, and schools throughout West Bengal. The academy will represent Manchester City’s first venture into spearheading football education in India. This step will mark a significant step in developing young football talent in the region. The establishment of the Man City Football School in Kolkata marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of Indian football, promising to inject fresh energy and professional standards into the region’s sporting ecosystem.
Founder and MD of Techno India Group, Satyam Roychowdhury, also said that they are also looking to set up the first dedicated sports university in the state in a private capacity. He heaped praise on the Chief Minister, saying that the state government under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee even passed a Bill in the Assembly to help the group set up a university.
Furthermore, all enrolled students are also set to receive detailed performance reports and personalised improvement plans during the programme, crafted by the experts of City Football Group. Alongside the football training, the school will also provide golden opportunity to selective stundes to train at Man City facilities at the United Kingdom.
