New Delhi: A video of the life-threatening challenge faced by climbers during Mount Everest descent has been shared by an International Federation of Mountain Guides (IFMGA) guide, Vinayak Malla, on Instagram. The post shared by him on his Instagram handle highlights several challenges, including overcrowding, tense, chaos, moments, and, sadly, fatalities. Malla, along with a few other climbers, successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak. However, they faced an unexpected challenge, caused by a sudden cornice fall during their descent. The sudden changes are direct or indirect results of global warming.
Mount Everest Avalanche in 2015
In 2015, Mount Everest witnessed the deadliest disaster on April 25, when a powerful earthquake struck Nepal in the afternoon. The powerful earthquake triggered massive avalanches from Pumori, a mountain eight kilometres west of Mount Everest, to the Everest Base Camp. The unprecedented avalanche gave climbers no time to defend themselves and claimed the lives of around 22 out of 359 climbers present at the base camp during the time of the incident. Many of the climbers were returned to complete their Everest summits after the aborted 2014 season.
Mount Everest Avalanche in 2014
Before 2015 incident, Mount Everest was rocked by the deadliest avalanche in 2014. The ice avalanche, which jolted Mt. Everest on April 18 and claimed the lives of 16 Nepalese guides, was triggered by the collapse of seracs (which are ridges of ice) on the western side of Mount Everest. The incident was reported in the Khumbu Icefall, the same location that witnessed the 1970 Mount Everest Disaster. The disaster sparked anger among the Sherpa guides, who protested a strike against the Nepalese government’s meager offer of compensation to the victims’ families and stayed away from their services for the rest of the year in honour of those who died.
Mount Everest Disaster 1996
The 1996 Everest disaster is considered to be one of the deadliest and worst disasters in the history of Mount Everest. The disaster, which was triggered by severe weather conditions, took place between May 10 and 11. The disaster claimed the lives of eight people who were unable to escape from it. The victims were part of a small or large team who were at high altitudes on the mountain, and the deaths were reported on both the North Face and the South Col approaches. The incident gained much media attention, and people questioned the benefits of all Everest expeditions.
Climbing Mount Everest and reaching its summit is one of the most fascinating dreams of several climbers and mountaineers. However, many people have lost their lives on their way to the top of the mountain. Over the years, the Everest has witnessed several major disasters, including the Mount Everest Avalanche in 2015, the Mount Everest Avalanche in 2014, and the Mount Everest Disaster in 1996. knowledge Knowledge News, Photos and Videos on General Knowledge
