New Delhi: April 2025 has several bank holidays. Come next week, and the banks will remain closed for four days from Ambedkar Jayanti to Good Friday. So in case you have some work in banks, do check the list of holidays issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Banks will remain closed for 17 days in the ongoing month. However, it may be noted that some holidays will be state specific so it is not necessary that the lenders will observe holidays across the country for every event/or occasion.

Next week, the banks will remain closed in several parts of the country for Ambedkar Jayanti, regional New Year celebrations, Bengali New Year and Bohag Bihu. In such a situation, if you are planning to go to the bank, make sure to check the holiday list with your local bank branch in advance.

Bank Holiday on April 14: Ambedkar Jayanti and Regional New Year

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar on 14th April, banks will remain closed in several states except Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya and Himachal Pradesh. Also, Vishu, Tamil New Year, Bihu and other regional New Year festivals will be celebrated at many places on the same day. Banks will remain closed in Assam and Tamil Nadu.

Bengali New Year on April 15

Bengali New Year, called Pohela Boishakh or Bangla Noboborsho, will be celebrated in West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh. This is the first day of the Bengali calendar. Banks will remain closed in the mentioned states on 15th April. Banks will observe a holiday across Himachal Pradesh for Himachal Day.

Bohag Bihu

Banks will remain closed in Assam for Bohag Bihu on 16th April. The people of Assam celebrate the day as a New Year celebration.

Good Friday on April 18

Good Friday is falling on April 18. Banks will remain closed in several states except in Tripura, Assam, Rajasthan, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh and Srinagar. The day is celebrated by the Christian community to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

April 1: For closing of annual accounts and Sarhul (Jharkhand).
April 5: Babu Jagjivan Ram Jayanti (Telangana).
April 7: Shad Suk Mynsiem (Meghalaya).
10 April: Mahavir Janamkalyanak/Mahavir Jayanti.
April 14: Ambedkar Jayanti and regional New Year celebration.
April 15: Bengali New Year.
April 16: Bohag Bihu (Assam).
April 18: Good Friday.
April 21: Garia Puja (Tripura).
April 29: Lord Shri Parshuram Jayanti (Shimla).
April 30: Basava Jayanti/Akshaya Tritiya

RBI divides the bank holidays into 3 categories:

Holidays under Negotiable Instruments Act: These include major festivals and national holidays.
Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) Holidays: These are holidays related to specific transactions.

 April 2025 sees multiple bank holidays across India.
