New Delhi: Manchester City may not be having the best season but that isn’t the only problem that has been looming around the players. In their most recent Manchester derby, it remained deadlocked after the final whistle where City looked far from their best. However, that result was only a small percentage of what the City players had to go through. In a recent interview after the match, instead of blaming Manchester United, Pep Guardiola said that Phil Foden and Jack Grealish do not “feel good” following incidents involving fans at the Manchester derby.

The problem? well, it was Jack Grealish who suffered the first blow that left him shocked after their derby at Old Trafford. He was allegedly slapped as he entered the Old Trafford tunnel after Sunday’s 0-0 draw, leading to a 20-year-old man being charged with assault earlier this week. Meanwhile, during the first half of the match, Phil Foden also had to cope with insulting remarks made about his mother by United supporters, which Guardiola later described as displaying “a lack of class.”

Were there any actions taken by FA?

Kick It Out, an anti-discrimination charity, claims that “sexism isn’t banter” in response to taunts that were directed at Phil Foden’s mother during Sunday’s Manchester derby at Old Trafford. The shouts, which were audible during the first half of the goalless draw and after Manchester City forward Foden was substituted in the 57th minute, will not result in any punishment against Manchester United, the Football Association says under its guidelines.

Hollie Varney, the chief operating officer of Kick It Out, told BBC Sport that there have been multiple instances of sexist and misogynistic mob chanting in men’s football, but all too frequently, the sport’s response is inadequate.

“‘Banter’ is not sexism,” he further claimed.

In Grealish’s case, Alfie Holt of Haven Drive, Droylsden, will appear at Manchester Magistrates Court on July 14, according to a statement released by Greater Manchester Police on Monday.

“This charge relates to an incident which took place at Old Trafford Football Club yesterday,” the police added. When contacted by BBC Sport, both United and City chose not to comment.

How are the two players feeling after this?

The Football Association has chosen not to prosecute United despite the club’s private condemnation of the chanting. Guardiola responded, “He doesn’t feel good, but we move forward,” when asked how Grealish and Foden were feeling.

“It’s a crazy world. Nobody is away from that.

“It’s not about United, it’s not a problem of a specific club or department in world football. It’s beyond that person. It happens everywhere.”
