New Delhi: Aiden Markram took a sensational flying catch at the boundary rope to dismiss Shubman Gill in the IPL 2025 clash between Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Kings on Saturday. After LSG skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bowl first, GT got off to a blistering start thanks to their openers Gill and Sai Sudharsan.
The duo laid a solid foundation, rotating the strike smartly, converting singles into doubles, and punishing every loose delivery with boundaries. Their excellent shot selection and aggressive intent powered GT to 103 runs at the halfway mark (10 overs) without losing a wicket. Captain Gill was in sublime touch, reaching 60 off just 38 balls and was nearing his century but a brilliant catch from LSG fielder Markram ended his innings.
In the 13th over, Avesh Khan gave LSG their much-needed breakthrough after delivering a fuller-length ball on middle and off, which Gill attempted to launch over long-on. It looked like it would clear the ropes, but Markram, at long-on timed his jump to perfection and took a sensational two-handed catch just inside the boundary line. The 120-run opening stand was finally broken.

Just an over later, LSG struck again after leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi dismissed the other set batter, Sai Sudharsan, who contributed a fluent 56 off 37 balls. In a quick turnaround, GT found themselves at 122/2, having lost both openers within the span of just two runs. After losing the openers, the visitors suffered a batting collapse and from 122 for 2, they ended the innings at 180/6 in the stipulated 20 overs.
For the hosts, the chase would be an easy one as they were able to restrict the Titans to a moderate total and considering their batting form, the Super Giants would be aiming for a victory.
