New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant attributed their five-wicket loss to Chennai Super Kings in their IPL 2025 home game to failure to put up an adequate score on the board.

CSK won the toss and opted to bowl at the Ekana Stadium with Pant being LSG’s top scorer with a 49-ball 63-run knock studded with four boundaries and as many sixes.

LSG posted 166/7 on a sluggish Ekana track, which proved to be too little as CSK reached their target with three balls left with skipper MS Dhoni unbeaten on 26 off 11 balls (4×4, 1×6) and Shivam Dube not out on 43 off 37 balls with three boundaries and two sixes.

It was LSG’s third loss in seven matches that kept them rooted at the fourth spot in the standings. Speaking about their loss, Pant said they didn’t runs on the board.

“We feel that as a team we were 10 to 15 runs short, we kept losing wickets when the momentum was with us. We had to keep stitching in partnerships. The wicket was stopping a bit, but we could have got 15 runs more I feel,” the keeper-batter said.

With the bat, Pant has had a slow start to the tournament but he struck his first half century of this season and said he is gradually getting into rhythm.

“I am feeling better with each and every game, but sometimes it doesn’t come off. Slowly getting into my rhythm, taking every match at a time,” the left handed batter said.

Pant’s tactics were questioned as he didn’t think of using Ravi Bishnoi at the later stage of CSK’s run chase despite the leg spinner being LSG’s most successful bowler of the match with 2/18 from three overs.

“We discussed with a lot of players, but we couldn’t take him (Bishnoi) deeper, that (bowling his last over) didn’t happen today. Bowling in the powerplay has been a concern for us, but we can pull things back.

“As a team we are looking to take the positives from each and every game and we are trying to improve,” he said.
