New Delhi: Arsenal and Inter Milan are the latest additions to the semifinal quartet of the UEFA Champions League, after registering commanding victories in the second leg quarter-final on Wednesday. While Arsenal defeated Real Madrid 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu, Inter drew with Bayern Munich at San Siro but advanced with a high aggregate score. The quarter-final legs are concluded with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and FC Barcelona already into the semis.
Playing in front of their home crowd, defending champions Real Madrid were left embarrassed by Arsenal as they registered a 2-1 victory and eliminated the Los Blancos. Holding a 3-0 advantage from the first leg, the Gunners extended their scoring when Bukayo Saka scored in the 65th minute, capitalising on a well-executed gameplay. However, Vinicius Junior didn’t take long as he responded swiftly for Madrid and narrowed the score only two minutes later.
Arsenal displayed composure and control, which led Gabriel Martinelli to seal victory for his side with a stoppage-time goal, making it 2-1 and a 5-1 aggregate triumph. The victory marks Arsenal’s first entry into a UCL semifinal since 2009, where they will face PSG.
