New Delhi: Mumbai Indians (MI) registered their fourth win on the trot as they completed a double over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Suryakumar Yadav starred with his unbeaten 40-run knock as he helped MI chase down a below-par target of 144 with seven wickets to spare. Surya has also closed in on an elite record by Robin Uthappa, which he claimed during Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) title-winning run in IPL 2014.
SRH went down by four wickets against MI in the first leg, on April 17 in Mumbai, and the team began their second leg on Wednesday with another clash against the Mumbai side, this time at their den. However, the result wasn’t any different than the previous clash as they were restricted to 143/8 in 20 overs and couldn’t defend the target, as Mumbai romped to victory in just 15.4 overs on the back of Rohit Sharma’s 46-ball 70 and Suryakumar’s quickfire knock.
Rohit came good for Mumbai second time in succession as he previously starred against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium on April 20. Nonetheless, Surya now nears Robin Uthappa in terms of crossing 25 in each of his nine innings in IPL 2025. Notably, there has only been one other instance of more consecutive 25-plus scores in an IPL edition – Uthappa getting to 25+ for 10 times in a row in KKR’s victorious IPL 2014.
Also, the last instance of MI securing four or more consecutive victories came during their title-winning campaign in 2020. It was a five-match streak that was broken in a double Super Over finish against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Dubai.

Surya speaks post MI win
Surya’s wife, Devisha Shetty, was seen cheering for her husband and MI from the stands of the Uppal Stadium. She is not a regular visitor to MI games, unlike other WAGs of Indian cricketers, and was one happy lady seeing her hubby finish the job for his team. At the post-match presentation, Surya was asked about Devisha in the stadium, to which he replied, “She has flow down from Mumbai so what more I need, she was here so we had to win.”
“I think it was really important to come out positive as we were playing good cricket and had to continue the momentum, winning four games on the trot is a great feeling,” Surya said. On his partnership with Rohit, Surya added, “He made my job really easier, I just had to bat with good tempo and him scoring runs is a really great sign for the team.”
Suryakumar Yadav bagged an elite IPL record as he closed in on Robin Uthappa’s 2014 season’s feat, in MI’s second win of the season against SRH, in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
