Terrorism cannot be tolerated: Sourav Ganguly wants India to break all cricketing ties with Pakistan

New Delhi: Former Indian cricket team captain and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has urged the board to cut all cricketing ties with Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack. Ganguly said terrorism should not be tolerated and that the BCCI should consider ending all cricketing activities with Pakistan.

Ganguly’s comments come after a group of terrorists opened fire on tourists in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadows, killing 26 people and injuring several others in a ghastly attack on April 22. The attack sent shockwaves across the country, sparking calls for action against the terrorists. The Resistance Force (TRF), a Pakistani terrorist group associated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the attack.

When asked if India should consider ending all ties with Pakistan, Ganguly agreed and called for strict action. Speaking to reporters, Ganguly said that such terror activities are happening each year and that terrorism should not be tolerated.

“100 per cent, India should do this (break ties with Pakistan). Strict action should be taken. It has turned out to be a joke that such things are happening every year. Terrorism cannot be tolerated,” said Ganguly.

India and Pakistan have not played bilateral cricket since 2013 due to the ongoing political tensions between the two nations. However, the two teams continued to meet each other in major ICC events and the Asia Cup. Earlier this year, India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025 and played all their matches in Dubai.

There have been reports that BCCI is considering writing to the ICC not to club both India and Pakistan in the same group in ICC events to avoid clashing with each other. However, a BCCI official denied the reports, stating the board is currently in a wait-and-watch situation at present. Earlier, BCCI secretary Rajeev Shukla said that the board will follow the government’s orders in the matter.

PM Modi promises strict action against terrorists

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured strict action against the terrorists and those behind the terror attack in Pahalgam. Addressing a rally in Bihar, PM Modi said India is determined to track down all the terrorists and their backers and will punish them for their actions. The security forces have already begun crackdown against suspected terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir.

“Today from the soil of Bihar I say to the whole world. India will identify, track and punish every terrorist and their backers. We will pursue them to the ends of the Earth,” said PM Modi.
