New Delhi: Rajasthan Royals have been dealt with a major blow as pacer Sandeep Sharma has been ruled out of remainder of Indian Premier League 2025 due to a fracture in his finger. The Royals released a statement on Thursday where they clarified that Sandeep was playing the matches despite an injury to his finger but on May 1, it was decided that he cannot continue further.
The Rajasthan Royals also confirmed that the replacement for the fast bowler would be announced soon and the franchise is activity looking for the same. ‘Sandeep Sharma has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a fracture in his finger,’ Rajasthan Royals said in the statement.
‘He showed immense bravery to continue bowling with this injury in the last match and everyone at the franchise wishes him a full and speedy recovery. The team management is actively working on finalising his replacement, post which an official announcement will be made,’ the franchise added.
Sandeep suffers fracture during RR’s home game
In IPL 2025, Sandeep represented the Royals in as many as 10 matches claiming nine wickets with best figures of 2/26. The 31-year-old bowler suffered the injury during Rajasthan’s home game against the Gujarat Titans while he attempted to stop a Shubman Gill shot off his own bowling. The bowler instantly fell down on the ground and was attended by the team’s physio. He continued to bowl the remaining eight balls left in his spell.
It comes as a big blow for the franchise who are still in the race to qualify for the playoffs. Out of the total 10 matches, Royals have won three games while faced defeat in seven games. Chennai Super Kings are the only side in the event who have been eliminated from the playoff race. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) lead the points table with seven wins in 10 matches.
