ECB makes offer to BCCI to host remaining IPL 2025 matches in England – Report

New Delhi: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has offered a helping hand to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with respect to hosting the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The remainder of the IPL was cancelled for a week on Friday amid the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan.

According to a report in The Cricketer, it has been stated that the ECB has contacted the Indian cricket board for the same after hearing about the suspension of the league. If the BCCI accepts the offer to host the remaining matches in England, the step would be unprecedented in the history of the cash-rich league. It would be the first time that the league will be played in England.

UK third nation to host IPL?

If the deal between the ECB and BCCI materialises, UK would be the third nation after South Africa and UAE to host the Indian Premier League. In the recent time, the connection between the ECB and IPL franchises has increased with many owners of the IPL buying stake in England’s The Hundred competition. If BCCI agrees, this would be an important landmark for the cricketing ties between the two nations.

Meanwhile, 57 matches of the 18th edition of IPL have been completed and the 58th game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala was stopped midway due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. The league stage was supposed to be completed on May 18, but the schedule is all set to rearranged for the remaining games depending on the situation in India. There are also options of the cash-rich league moving to UAE or South Africa again, but if the situation improves in India, then the BCCI would be eager to host it in the original country itself.
