New Delhi: Indian batter Sarfaraz Khan is leaving no stone unturned as he gears up for the upcoming England tour. It is not yet known whether he will get a chance for the five-match Test series against England in the main squad, which is set to begin on June 20. The 27-year-old has been picked for the India A 18-member squad for the first two matches against the Lions.
According to a report by India Today, Sarfaraz has shed nearly 10 kgs of weight through a strict diet and fitness routine. His meal mainly includes boiled vegetables and chicken to improve his fitness.
Sarfaraz’s performance in the Test?
After making his long-awaited debut in 2024, Sarfaraz is yet to play a Test match outside India. The upcoming India ‘A’ tour of England presents a golden chance, and the Mumbai-born cricketer seems determined to make the most of it.
Last time he didn’t get a single game during the five-match Test series against Australia. His last appearance in the test was against New Zealand in the third Test at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In the six appearances made so far, he has scored 371 runs at an average of 37.10, which includes one hundred and three fifties. His century came against New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where he scored 150 runs, but his knock went in vain as the Kiwis defeated India.
Other additions to the squad
Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan will join the squad after the IPL concludes. Meanwhile, vice-captain Dhruv Jurel, along with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shardul Thakur, Ishan Kishan, and others, complete a well-rounded squad.
Following the retirements of senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the upcoming tour will shape the next generation of India for the red ball batting lineup. With two spots vacant in the playing XI, Sarfaraz has a golden opportunity to captivate on as he seems clearly ready to take it head-on.
