New Delhi: Delhi Capitals pacer Mukesh Kumar was fined 10 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the team’s defeat against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday evening. Mumbai registered a huge 59-run win over the Capitals to become the fourth team to qualify for the playoffs after GT, RCB and PBKS.

In addition to the fine, the Capitals fast bowler was also handed one demerit pint for his level 1 offence under Article 2.2 which deals with ‘abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match.’ The result of the match knocked out the Capitals from the race to the playoffs.

Mukesh admits to offence

‘Mukesh Kumar admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction,’ an IPL release stated. ‘For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.’

In his four-over spell, Mukesh proved to be quite expensive giving away 48 runs while picking two wickets. His last over proved to be very expensive as he gave away 27 runs , which included three sixes and two fours. His frustration in the final over was so evident after he was unable to contain the Mumbai side leading to a fine.

Meanwhile, batting first, Suryakumar Yadav shined with an unbeaten 73-run knock as Mumbai accumulated 180 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Will Jacks, Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir were the other contributors. Mukesh was the leading wicket-taker with two wickets. In reply, Delhi failed to chase the score in the crucial clash folding for 121 runs in 18.2 overs. Sameer Rizvi showed some courage with a 39-run knock.

Mitchell Santner and Jasprit Bumrah shined for the Mumbai side picking three wickets each while the others bowlers also claimed a wicket each.
