New Delhi: Jannik Sinner stretched his Grand Slam winning streak to 15 matches by winning the last five games to complete a 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 win over Arthur Rinderknech in the French Open 2025 opening round. The number one ranked player is playing his second tournament since serving a three-month doping ban that was announced shortly after he claimed the Australian Open title in January.
Sinner’s case came into limelight shortly before last year’s US Open, which he had won. The 23-year-old Italian tennis player has three Grand Slam titles to his name, each trophy on hard courts. His best performance came at the Roland Garros which pushed him into the semifinals an year ago before going down in five sets to Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz.

62nd win in row vs opponents outside top 20
Meanwhile, the result against Rinderknech, who’s ranked 75th, in the Court Philippe-Chatrier was Sinner’s 62nd victory in a row against opponents outside the top 20. The tennis player was perfect in the initial two sets on Monday, combining 19 winners and just eight unforced errors. His level took a hit in the third, with nine unforced errors off contributing to deficits of 4-0 and 5-2.
Meanwhile, Iga Swiatek, who has struggled lately, and Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, who has not, got off to good starts in their Roland Garros defenses, recording straight-set victories to reach the second round. Swiatek was up first in Court Philippe-Chatrier beat 42nd-ranked Rebecca Sramkova 6-3, 6-3. the tennis player compiled 25 winners and 17 unforced errors in the contest which lasted 1 hour and 24 minutes.
On the other hand, Alcaraz needed only about a half-hour more than that for a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 win over Giulio Zeppieri, an Italian qualifier who is ranked 310th.
