New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to honour the Indian Armed Forces during the IPL 2025 closing ceremony slated to take place on June 3. The decision has been taken to honour the courage of the armed forces during their successful conduct of Operation Sindoor, which was done in response to Pakistan-sponsored terrorists killing 26 people in south Kashmir’s Pahlagam.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, BCCI secretary Saikia Devajit confirmed that the Indian cricket board will honour the armed forces with the felicitation ceremony set to witness the presence of Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan, Chief of Army Staff Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Navy Staff Dinesh K Tripathi, and Chief of Air Staff AP Singh.

Invitations sent to all three chiefs

‘We are grateful for the constant bravery, courage and service of our armed forces. We want to give a special tribute to honour their efforts under Operation Sindoor. The IPL 2025 closing ceremony will be a tribute to the Armed Forces,’ sources told Hindustan Times. ‘We have already sent out invitations to the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Navy Staff and the Chief of Air Staff’.

On May 7, India launched Operation Sindoor carrying out an attack on terrorists hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The death of the 26 civilians at the tourist spot was deeply condemned by people from all walks of life. Meanwhile, the report additionally mentions that the closing ceremony on Tuesday would also feature some performances by the military bands and the Indian cricket board is also expected to invite some prominent singers for a musical evening ahead of the beginning of the grand finale.

Earlier, the IPL was also suspended for ten days due to the escalating tensions between both the countries which was followed by a ceasefire.
