New Delhi: Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Shashank Singh made an honest admission as he said he deserved to be ‘slapped’ by skipper Shreyas Iyer after his lazy run-out dismissal in Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL2) 2025. Shashank also recalled how his father refused to speak to him after the incident.
The controversial run-out took place during Punjab Kings’ run chase in the second Qualifier against Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In the 17th over of PBKS’ 204-run chase, Shashank was dismissed on 2 after he was caught short of the crease by Hardik Pandya, who pulled off a brilliant throw.
Shashank was casual in his approach while completing a double and paid the price for it. Iyer, who won the game for his team with a cracking unbeaten 87 off 41 balls, was spotted giving an earful to Shashank after the conclusion of the game. The PBKS batter admitted he was too casual while completing the run and ‘deserved’ to be slapped by Iyer.
“I deserve it, Iyer should have slapped me,” Shashank told the Indian Express about the run-out fiasco in 2nd Qualifier.

Shashank also revealed that his father, too, was angry with him after the run-out and didn’t speak to him till the final. The batter revealed that skipper Iyer, who lost his cool, told him that he was disappointed with his casual running, but later took him out for dinner.
“My father didn’t speak to me till the finals. I was casual, I was walking on the beach not even in the garden. It was a crucial time, Shreyas was clear that I didn’t expect this from you but later he took me out for dinner,” Shashank added.
Punjab Kings miss out on maiden IPL title
Despite Shashank’s run-out, Punjab Kings chased down the target of 204 runs with an over to spare to beat Mumbai Indians by six wickets and book their spot in the final. Shashank played a gritty knock of 61 runs, but the Punjab Kings failed to chase down the total of 191 runs to suffer a six-run defeat in the final against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Shashank, who was retained by Punjab Kings for Rs 4 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction last year, enjoyed a great season for the franchise as a finisher with 350 runs at an average of 50.00 and an excellent strike rate of over 153.
Punjab Kings batter Shashank Singh revealed his father didn’t speak to him till the finals and that he wanted skipper Shreyas Iyer slapped him after his run-out fiasco in the Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025.
