81 runs in 4 overs! Ireland pacer records 2nd worst bowling figures in T20Is on nightmarish debut vs West Indies

New Delhi: Ireland pacer Liam McCarthy had a nightmarish debut in the 3rd T20I against West Indies as he ended up recording the second-worst bowling figures in T20I history. McCarthy was taken to the cleaners by the West Indies batters as he conceded a whopping 81 runs off his four overs in his first-ever T20I match for Ireland at the Bready Cricket Club in Bready.

Right-arm pacer McCarthy was introduced into the attack in the fifth over and got off to a dismal start. He ended up giving away 21 runs off his first over as Shai Hope and Evin Lewis went all out against him. Hope smashed two sixes off the first two balls he faced from the pacer, before Lewis slammed two fours to help West Indies get 21 runs off the over.

There was no way out for the pacer after his poor start as the visitors continued to bash him all around the park in the remainder of his spell. Lewis struck a six and a hat-trick of fours in his next over to help West Indies get 21 runs from it. McCarthy was then taken to the cleaners by Shimron Hetmyer, who smashed three fours to get 18 runs off his third over.

In his final over, McCarthy was hit for a four and two sixes by Keacy Carty to concede 18 runs off it and finish with diabolical figures of 81/0 off his 4 overs. The Ireland pacer’s spell is the second-worst in the history of T20I cricket, behind only Musa Jobarteh of Gambia, who gave away 93 runs off his 4 overs in a game against Zimbabwe in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Africa Qualifier Group B match in October last year.

West Indies thrash Ireland by 62 runs in 3rd T20I

Lewis, Hope and Carty annihilated the Ireland bowlers as West Indies produced a stupendous batting display to beat the hosts by 62 runs in the third T20I and win the three-match series 1-0. Lewis blasted a quickfire 91 off just 44 balls, while Hope smashed 51 off 27 balls as the duo added a 122-run stand for the first wicket after West Indies were asked to bat first in the game.

Lewis’ blazing 91 was laced with 8 sixes and seven fours, while skipper Hope smashed 4 sixes and as many fours en route to his half-century. The duo provided West Indies with a cracking start at the top, and it was Carty who helped them finish strongly with his unbeaten 49 off just 22 balls. Thanks to three blazing knocks, West Indies posted a mammoth 256/5 in 20 overs.

Spinner Akeal Hosein starred with the ball for the visitors as he picked up a three-wicket haul while conceding only 27 runs off his 4 overs to help West Indies restrict Ireland to 194/7 in 20 overs and win the game by 62 runs. With the victory, West Indies took the three-match series 1-0 after the first two matches were washed out due to rain.
