New Delhi: Ace pole vaulter Armand Duplantis, popularly known as Mondo Duplantis, can’t stop breaking records. The two-time Olympic champion continued his record-shattering spree at the Diamond League meeting in Stockholm, where he smashed the world record in men’s pole vault for the 12th time in his career. Duplantis soared 6.28 metres at the 1912 Olympic Stadium in Stockholm to better his previous record of 6.27m.

Though Duplantis is no stranger to smashing world records, his feat in the Stockholm Diamond League is a special one for the Swedish pole vaulter, who bettered his previous best for the first time at home. The 25-year-old finished on top of the standings, ahead of Australia’s Kurtis Marschall, who tried hard to beat the two-time Olympic champion but could only manage the best effort of 5.90m.

Overjoyed after breaking the world record for the first time in front of his home crowd at the 1912 Olympic Stadium, Duplantis celebrated his victory in style with his friends and family, who were watching on from the stands. He also acknowledged the appreciation from the home crowd, soaking in the moment of glory.

Duplantis had vowed to break the men’s pole vault world record for the first time at home ahead of the Stockholm Diamond League, and lived up to his promise with yet another memorable performance in his spectacular career. Duplantis was elated after creating a new world record for the first time at home as he recalled his childhood days, when he jumped for the first time at the historic stadium.

“I feel full to the brim right now. I’ve got a lot of family here. The first time I jumped in this stadium when I was 11 years old, it was rainy and cold, and I jumped right under four metres – it was quite high for how young I was. I’m just going to enjoy this, enjoy the moment right now,” Duplantis said after breaking the world record for the 12th time on Sunday.

Delighted to have his name etched at the stadium for breaking the world record, Duplantis said he will forever cherish the moment, which will be one of the greatest memories of his career. The two-time world champion and two-time Olympic champion will now be aiming to clear the 6.30m mark to etch his name in history.

“They etch the names of world record holders here. It’s going to be really special to have my name etched in the stadium. It’s the most beautiful stadium, in my biased opinion. It’ll be one of the greatest memories for me, I think, in my career,” said the 25-year-old.
