New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Varanasi on Tuesday during which he is expected to release the 17th instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme worth Rs 20,000 crore. The Centre has disbursed funds worth Rs 3.054 lakh crore since the start of the PM-KISAN Scheme to more than 11 crore eligible farmers since its launch in 2019. The cut-off date for eligibility under PM-KISAN is February 1, 2019. Only transfer of ownership on account of death will be considered eligible under the scheme.

What is PM-KISAN Scheme?
Under the PM-KISAN Scheme, eligible farmer families are entitled to a 4-monthly payment of Rs 2,000, totalling RS 6,00 per year. As of date, the Centre has released 16 instalments of the PM-KISAN Scheme. The Centre defines a farmer family as husband, wife and minor kids.
PM-KISAN eligibility
The scheme is available to all farmers irrespective of the size of their landholdings if they have cultivable landholdings in their name. However, the following farmers are not eligible under the scheme including institutional landholders.
The following are also not eligible — Farmer families one or more of whose members are:
Holder of the constitutional post (past or present)
Former or present minister, Lok Sabha MP, Rajya Sabha MP, MLA, member of legislative council, former or present mayor, chairperson of district panchayat.
Retired or serving officer of the government
Pensioner
Income Taxpayer
Professionals such as doctors, engineers, lawyers, CA or architect
