Iconic ‘Home Alone’ House Up For Sale After Major Renovation, But Fans Divided

The Home Alone movie is one of those comfort movies that people can watch for multiple times and maintains a cult following even after releasing almost three decades. The movie is centred around a little boy who was mistakenly left alone in the house during Christmas, when the family went on a vacation.

But there was another important player in the room who played an important part in the movie, the iconic McCallister family home, which is located in the town of Winnetka, Illinois. The house is built with red-bricks which looks aesthetic. The house has gone through a lot of transformation since Kevin McCallister faced the thieves single-handedly, and now the house is up for sale for the first time in 12 years.

The iconic Home Alone house at 671 Lincoln Avenue has been listed for sale by Coldwell Banker Realty’s Dawn McKenna Group, priced at $5.25 million (approx Rs 44 crore). The group provided a sneak peek of the five-bedroom, six-bathroom, 9,000-square-foot house on Instagram, showcasing significant changes to the interior.

Gone are the compartmentalised rooms and dark kitchens; the home now features sprawling open spaces, a gourmet kitchen, a full bath, and more. Despite these upgrades, some fans are not pleased with the transformation, feeling that the essence of the original film has been lost.

As one user commented, “If I were rich, I would buy it and redo it to be an exact replica of the movie and turn it into a museum of the film,” while another added, “No, it doesn’t look familiar because it’s been sterilised beyond recognition.” The house, previously sold for $1.58 million in 2012, was “fully renovated and expanded” in 2018.
