New Delhi: Rohit Sharma and Co. defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the T20 World Cup final and ended India’s long-standing ICC trophy drought. After the match, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from the T20I format.
The Indian captain made crucial contributions with the bat against Australia and England and ended the tournament as the team’s leading run-scorer while Virat Kohli’s match-winning knock of 76 runs off 59 balls helped the Men in Blue to post a good total on the scoreboard in the final.
Former Pakistan cricketers praised both players for their contribution in the shorter format of the game. Zaheer Abbas said that he’s a fan of Rohit’s batting and tries to follow him when matches are on TV. He also spoke about Virat Kohli and said that his records speak for itself.
“I have always been a fan of Rohit’s batting and try to follow him when matches are on TV. Kohli’s greatness is there for all to see his records speak for themselves but Rohit I am happy that he could win the World Cup for his country” Zaheer Abbas said.
Javed Miandad said that we will still see them play in Test Cricket and 50 overs cricket and it is good for their career that they left T20Is with glory “We will still see them in Test and 50-overs cricket but it is befitting for their career that they left T20 internationals in glory. The discipline and professionalism and fitness of Kohli makes him a top role model to follow and his admirers will be as good as him as well” Javed Miandad said.
Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi said that Rohit was a great captain and Kohli had always been a big match performer and they have done the right thing to retire on a high “Both Rohit and Kohli have done the right thing to retire on a high after leading India to the World Cup title.”
Former Test batter Mohsin Khan said that both players have set a very good example for young players and he’s very impressed from them “This is how you retire from any format in glory. But I am very impressed by the hunger of these two senior players, particularly the way Rohit led the side to finally win a World Cup.”
Ravindra Jadeja announced retirement from T20Is
After Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja also announced his retirement from the T20I format. The Indian all-rounders with 515 runs from 74 matches at a strike rate of 127.16. He picked 54 wickets in the T20I format at an economy of 7.13.
