New Delhi: The World Champions Team India will take on Zimbabwe in the first T20I at Harare Sports Club in Harare on July 6. The Men in Blue will play five T20I matches against Zimbabwe. The senior players including Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah were given a rest after their fantastic campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 while Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja have announced their retirement from the shorter format.
Indian captain Shubman Gill said that he wants to open for India in T20Is as Rohit and Virat have also played as an opener in the T20 World Cup “I think Rohit Bhai was an opener and Virat Bhai also opened in this World Cup…I have also opened in T20s. So, I think I will want to open in T20Is” Gill said during the pre-match press conference.
He also said that the pressure and expectations will always remain and what Virat and Rohit achieved for Team India will be very difficult for him to achieve.
“Pressure and expectations, they I think always remain. But what Virat Bhai and Rohit Bhai have achieved, if I look to achieve that or reach that, it will be very difficult for me”.
He also added that every player has his own goal and if a player thinks to reach where others have reached then he will have more pressure on him “Every player has his own goal, where he wants to reach. That is the pressure. If you want to reach where other people have reached, then you have more pressure,” he added.
Abhishek to open, Gaikwad will bat at No.3
He also praised Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli and said that they are legends of Indian Cricket “Obviously there is pressure. But what they’ve achieved or what they did for India, they are both idols and legends of Indian cricket. But as players and the team the things we want to achieve, there is definitely pressure about that”.
The Indian skipper also confirmed that Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma will open the innings with him and Ruturaj Gaikwad will bat at no.3 “Abhishek Sharma will open with me and Ruturaj Gaikwad will bat at No.3” he said.
