New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to offer a helping hand to former cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad, who is battling blood cancer, and was in dire need of financial support for his treatment. BCCI secretary Jay Shah has directed the cricket board’s apex council to release INR 1 crore for the 1983 World Cup winner with immediate effect.
Additionally, Shah reached out to the family members of Gaekwad, assuring them full support from his administration. In a media release, the Indian cricket board promised to assist the family in every means. The BCCI also showed its confidence of the former Indian player coming out of this tough battle while ensuring to closely monitor the situation.
The support from the BCCI comes after 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev wrote to the board for their financial support. The 65-year-old Dev even offered to give his own pension in case the situation saw no progression, though he showed faith in the BCCI to make a timely intervention.
