New Delhi: Former India spinner Amit Mishra has made explosive remarks on Virat Kohli while talking about his bond with the star batter which deteriorated with time as Kohli became the skipper of Team India. Mishra played a bit in Kohli-led India during 2015-2017 and noticed behavioral changes in the ex-skipper as he drew comparisons with the current India captain Rohit Sharma and reflected on his contrasting bonds with both.
While Kohli and Rohit share a great bond with each other, being the backbone of the Indian batting line-up for so many years, Mishra pointed out how one changed with the stardom while the other remained just like he was on day one. On a YouTube show of Shubhankar Mishra, the LSG spinner spoke about his equation with both superstars of Indian cricket, highlighting how he shares a jovial and friendly bond with Rohit but can’t expect the same from Kohli in the current scenario. Mishra also insisted that due to Kohli’s change in nature, he is left with less friends in the Indian outfit.
“I won’t lie. As a cricketer, I respect him a lot, but I don’t share the same equation with him as I used to. Why does Virat have less friends? His and Rohit’s natures are different. I’ll tell you the best thing about Rohit. When I met him the first day and when I meet him today, he is the same person. So will you relate to him more or with someone who changes according to situation?
“I haven’t been part of the Indian team in years. Still when I meet Rohit during the IPL or any other event, he is always joking with me. I don’t need to think what he will think. We joke with each other. He is at the top but we still have maintained that bond. He is the captain, won the World Cup and five IPL titles,” Mishra stressed. Even during the IPL 2024, Rohit could be seen jesting with Mishra over their growing age, the video of which went viral as well.
Mishra’s equation with Kohli
Mishra played nine Tests under Kohli, including the swansong of his career, and went on to say that his bond with Kohli took a blow and that they almost stopped talking. Even Yuvraj Singh had talked about something similar where he said that he misses being friends with ‘Cheeku’, the young Kohli, but couldn’t maintain it with Virat Kohli the megastar. Mishra weighed in on Kohli’s changed behavior after becoming captain and the success that he garnered.
“I have seen Virat change a lot. We had almost stopped talking. When you get fame and power, they think people are reaching out to them for a purpose. I was never one of those. I have known Cheeku since the time he was 14, when he used to eat Samosas and when he needed Pizza every night. But there is a huge difference between the Cheeku I knew and Virat Kohli the captain. Whenever he meets me, he is very respectful, but it’s obviously not the same anymore,” Mishra perceived.
While reflecting on his relationship with two stalwarts of Indian cricket – Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Amit Mishra revealed shocking details of his bond with the former India skipper. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
