Washington: New York’s magazine cover has sparked a controversy after it released a semi-naked picture of the two presidential candidates, Donald Trump and Joe Biden, of the 2024 US Elections.
In the image, the duo can be seen standing on weighing scales wearing nothing but white underwear.
This comes amid rising concerns over Biden’s health especially after he tested positive for COVID-19 with mild symptoms and Trump’s assassination bid.
The US-based magazine posted the image on social media platforms, promoting it as its “New Health Issue”.
This edition is said to feature “medical breakthroughs and scandals, plus one political convulsion: the President’s seeming deterioration.”
In the extended post, executive editor Genevieve Smith said, “We had already been thinking about how to address the fact that this health issue would drop in the middle of a presidential campaign, when the presidential debate put the health and age of the candidates in the center of the national conversation.”
However, tables turned after the magazine’s concept and creativity didn’t go well with the users, who flooded the comment section on its social media calling it “disgusting”.
A user commented, “What a disgusting decision to make this a cover. We can now point to the media’s contribution to making the US a joke to the world.”
Criticising the magazine, another user said, “This cover CGI is embarrassing. Journalism is dead.”
“I’d just like to note that if a publication photoshopped a woman’s head onto a body in underwear and posted it, then the comments would be different. This is such a weird thing to do to anyone,” wrote another user on Instagram.
“This is sad, disgusting trash. I’m shocked at how awful this this, it makes me want to scratch my eyes out (sic),” one user said.
