Pakistan inch closer to Women’s Asia Cup semis after dominating win over UAE

New Delhi: Pakistan women’s team registered a dominant 10-wicket win over UAE in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 encounter in Dambulla on Tuesday. By virtue of this victory, the Women in Green have inched closer to earn a spot in the semifinals of the competition. Pakistan’s fate depends on another clash between India and Nepal.

If India beat Nepal in the Asia Cup match, Pakistan will be through to the semis and if the result is otherwise, then Nepal will be locked on two points with India and Pakistan. In such a scenario, the net run rate will come into play which will decide the fate of the three teams. As far as UAE are concerned, they have been eliminated from the tournament without registering any victory.

Bowlers, Feroza shine for Women in Green

After putting UAE to bat first, Pakistan bowlers shined for the side as they restricted their opponents to just 103 for 8 in the stipulated 20 overs. Left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal was their star performer as she picked up 2 wickets giving away just 11 runs in 4 overs. Meanwhile, Nashra Sandhu and Tuba Hassan also contributed with two wickets each restrict the UAE side to a below-par total.

Theertha Satish was the top scorer for UAE with a score of 40 runs off just 36 balls while skipper Esha Rohit Oza scored 16 runs. Chasing the modest total, Pakistan always looked in control as they reached to the score in just 14.1 overs without losing any wicket. Gul Feroza, who scored a fifty against Nepal, played yet another sensational knock of 62 runs off just 55 balls and remained unbeaten while wicketkeeper Muneeba Ali supported her with a 30-ball 37-run knock to help the side cross the finish line.
