Enzo Maresca states that he sees ‘no bad intention’ in Fernandez’s chants during Copa celebrations

New Delhi:  Team spirit has not been harmed at Stamford Bridge, according to Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who stated that Enzo Fernández had “no bad intentions” behind his inflammatory shouting regarding French players. The midfield player shared a video showing the team singing a homophobic and racist song regarding some French players’ ethnicity in order to celebrate Argentina’s Copa América victory.

Chelsea has started an internal disciplinary procedure and issued a statement stating that they recognize and value our player’s public apology and will use this as a chance to teach. Enzo Fernandez is currently on a vacation and has apologized since. Speaking exclusively to ESPN prior to Wednesday’s match, Chelsea’s manager, Antonio Maresca, discussed the Fernandez incident.

 

He stated that he doesn’t believe there were any malicious intentions behind it, so moving forward is simple because the player has already issued an apology. Chelsea is currently in the United States getting ready for the first game of their five-game tour against Wrexham in Santa Clara.

Wesley Fofana, Fernandez’s teammate at Chelsea, posted the video on ‘X’ with the caption, “Football in 2024: uninhibited racism. The French international Fofana is already in the Chelsea team in the United States, while Fernandez is scheduled to arrive on Monday. As a result, Fernandez has lost the Instagram followers of some of his colleagues. When asked if he thought Fernandez’s outburst would have an impact on team spirit, Maresca replied, “I don’t think so to be honest.”
