New Delhi: While the Paris 2024 Olympics kicked off with football and rugby sevens event on Wednesday, the showpiece event will officially start on Friday with a star-studded opening ceremony, which will unfurl the curtains of the biggest sporting extravaganza.

The 33rd edition of the Summer Olympics, which will begin from July 26 to August 11, will see the participation of athletes from over 200 countries across the world. A total of 329 events will take place across 32 sporting disciplines and India will participate in 16 out of the total 32 sports. The organising committee of the Olympics has promised the largest opening ceremony in the history of the event with a star-studded lineup ready to enthrall the athletes and the fans all over the world.

Here’s a look at who all will perform at the event

The Olympics opening ceremony is scheduled to be orchestrated by famous stage director Thomas Jolly. The plan is to celebrate the rich history and diversity of French music with numerous national and international stars.

Renowned French singer Aya Nakamura will be performing at the glittering opening ceremony while Queen of ballads Celine Dion is also expected to grace the occasion. Meanwhile, the most famous of all and a global pop sensation Lady Gaga will also grace the Olympic stage to double the excitement and the fun of the ceremony.

Instead of a traditional march into a stadium, about 10,500 athletes will parade on more than 90 boats on the Seine River for 6 kilometers, roughly 3.7 miles. This will start the ceremony, not mark the end of it, another break from tradition. The event is expected to go on for around four hours. India, meanwhile, has sent a strong 117-member contingent for the Paris Games which is expected to put up a good show at the event.
