New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the congratulatory messages for young Indian shooter Manu Bhaker after she clinched bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event on Sunday at the Chateauroux Shooting Center in Paris in the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024.
The 22-year-old Manu scored 221.7 from a total of 22 shots to finish third in the 8-women final event. South Korea duo of Oh Ye Jin (243.2) and Kim Yeji (241.3) took the gold and silver medals home, with Oh Ye Jin setting a new Olympic record. The gold medalist bettered the record of Russian shooter Vitalina Batsarashkina (240.3 in women’s 10m air pistol final) achieved at Tokyo three years ago.
PM Modi lauded the efforts of Haryana athlete Manu, who became the first female shooter from the country to win an Olympics medal in the sport.
“A historic medal! Well done, @realmanubhaker, for winning India’s FIRST medal at #ParisOlympics2024! Congrats for the Bronze. This success is even more special as she becomes the 1st woman to win a medal in shooting for India. An incredible achievement! #Cheer4Bharat,” Modi wrote on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
Droupadi Murmu, President of India, said that the country is proud of the achievement and this will serve as an inspiration story for other women sportspersons.

Manu Bhaker beams with pride during medal ceremony after historic bronze
Manu Bhaker has come a long way after failing to make it to the final of women’s 10m air pistol at Tokyo three years ago. She endured a weapon malfunction during the qualification round then. It was a historic moment for Manu to join the likes of Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang and Vijay Kumar to return with medals from shooting at the quadrennial showpiece event.
She stepped on the podium all gleeful to experience a ‘dream come true’ moment. Here’s the video of Manu Bhaker’s medal ceremony:
