‘This is Amazing’: Elon Musk Shares Controversial Video Mimicking Harris’ Voice, Stirs Debate

New York: Debates sparked after Tesla CEO Elon Musk posted a controversial video that mimics the voice of Vice President Kamala Harris raising about the potential power of artificial intelligence in influencing the upcoming Presidential elections.

The billionaire posted the video on Friday without explicitly noting it was originally released as a parody The caption of the video reads, “This is amazing.”

The video uses several of the same previous visuals as a real ad that Harris, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, released last week launching her campaign. However, the video swaps out the voice-over audio with another voice that convincingly impersonates Harris.

The voice in the video said, “I, Kamala Harris, am your Democrat candidate for president because Joe Biden finally exposed his senility at the debate.” It further claims that Harris is a “Diversity Hire” because she is a woman and a person of colour.

The voice in the video further says that Kamala doesn’t know “the first thing about running the country.”

The video retains “Harris for President” branding. It also adds in some authentic past clips of Harris.

The video soon raised questions about how to best handle content that blurs the lines of what is considered to be the best use of AI.

The video was originally posted by a YouTuber known as Mr Reagan, who has disclosed both on YouTube and on X that the manipulated video is a parody. But Musk’s post on the other hand, which has been viewed more than 123 million times doesn’t declare anything such other than the honours caption.

‘Don’t Use AI-Generated Voice to Attack Candidates: How Netizens Reacted

One user said, “Can you do one for Trump now? I’m sure it’ll be pretty easy, right.”

“I’ll take JD any day over clueless Kamala Harris,” another said.

Meanwhile, another group of netizens backed Harris. One user with sharing a picture of the Democratic candidate said, “We’re not going back. You can keep trying Elon but we are not going back.”

“Don’t use AI-generated voices to attack candidates. That just opens this all up to something far worse,” another said.
