‘Needs backing’: Sanju Samson needs long run after flop show in SL T20Is, says former pacer

New Delhi: The time is running out for Sanju Samson in T20Is after he was dismissed for two consecutive ducks in the second and third T20I against Sri Lanka. His fans demand justice for him on social media when he was not selected in the team but his performance is still not up to the mark in international cricket.

Samson replaced the injured Gill in the second T20I and was clean-bowled on the first ball. He replaced Pant in the third T20I and was dismissed for a four-ball duck. Samson hasn’t gotten regular chances in the Indian team, he was benched in all India games during the T20 World Cup.

He did well in one T20I match against Zimbabwe but failed to repeat the same performance in Sri Lanka. One of the problems with Sanju is that he has not shown consistency during his international career and former Kerela Pacer Tinu Yohanan feels that Sanju didn’t get a long run in Team India and each game is like a do-or-die for him.

“He debuted about 10 years ago and after that he has been (playing) on and off. He didn’t get a long run at any time. Each game is like a do-or-die game for him. Almost every time when he walks out to bat, he goes into pressure situations. He has to be given a long run somewhere down the line. He needs backing” Yohanan told RevSportz.

‘Sanju needs to be given long run at some point’: Tinu Yohanan

Yohanan said that at Rajasthan Royals Sanju knows his role and he needs to be given a long run in the Indian team at some point. He also said that Sanju is not the guy who puts pressure on himself and he just goes game by game.

“At Royals, he knows what his role is. He also knows it doesn’t matter if he fails. I know, in the Indian team it’s very difficult for him to get a long stretch of games, especially now that Rishabh (Pant) has come back. But then, he needs to be given a long run at some point of time,” Yohanan added.

Former pacer believes that Sanju Samson needs a longer run in the Indian team after he scored two back-to-back in the T20I series against Sri Lanka.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
