Hyderabad: BJP Sirpur MLA Harish Babu said that the district of Adilabad should be merged with Maharashtra in a session of Telangana Legislative Assembly on July 30.
The remarks came in the context of deep dissatisfaction over lack of development in Adilabad district. He further stated that if the government cannot allocate funds to develop the district, it should be merged with the state of Maharashtra.
He accused successive state governments of neglect in providing even basic services to the people of the ‘backwards’ area while speaking on demands for grants in the Assembly.
He also noted that BJP would not have pushed for a separate state had they known that Adilabad suffer neglect. He also said that North Telangana, including Adilabad was largely overlooked while thr government pays attention to development of areas in South Telangana.
“There is a significant Marathi-speaking population in Adilabad who would be open to the idea. In Maharashtra, tribal areas are well-developed, with good roads and facilities, unlike in Adilabad,” he stated.
