India at Paris Olympics Day 8: Manu Bhaker falls short of third medal, Archery campaign ends

New Delhi: The Indian Olympic contingent couldn’t find any success in terms of medals on the eighth day of the Paris Olympics 2024. Youngster Manu Bhaker’s 25m pistol final was the biggest highlight of the day among the events Indian athletes participated on Saturday (August 3).

Although the 22-year-old Manu missed a podium finish in her third final of this Summer Games, she is likely to return as India’s most successful athlete with two bronze medals hanging around her neck. She missed a medal in the 25m pistol final by a whisker. After eight series of five shots each, Manu was tied at the third place along with Hungary’s Veronika Major at 28 points.

While the Indian youngster missed two of the five shots in the decider to accumulate three points, Veronika managed to target four bullets (four points) to edge her younger opponent and claimed the bronze medal. Had Manu clinched the bronze, she would have been first Indian Olympian to win three medals at a single edition after her bronze in women’s 10m air pistol and another bronze in mixed team 10m air pistol with Sarabjot Singh.
