‘Humbling opportunity’: Manu Bhaker to be India’s flag bearer at Paris Olympics closing ceremony

New Delhi: Ace shooter Manu Bhaker has been chosen to be India’s flag bearer at the Paris Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday.

Manu has been the star of the Indian campaign at Paris 2024 with two bronze medals. She opened India’s medals count with a bronze in individual 10m air pistol event to become the country’s first markswoman with an Olympic medal.

Tje 22-year-old teamed up with Sarabjot Singh to claim the 10m air pistol mixed team bronze as well.

“It is an honour and privilege to be named as India’s flagbearer for the Closing Ceremony of the Paris Olympics. Leading the outstanding Indian contingent with the tricolour in my hands with millions around the world watching is a truly humbling opportunity and one that I will cherish forever,” Manu wrote on her X account.

“I am grateful to the IOA for considering me worthy of this honour, and I look forward to raising the Indian flag with immense pride. Jai Hind!”

The Indian Olympic Association hasn’t named a male flag bearer for the closing ceremony so far but could announce one in the coming days.

India has won three medals so far, with Manu’s shooting colleague Swapnil Kushale getting a bronze in the men’s 50m rifle three positions.
