Doha: Amid the raging war between Israel and Palestine, a joint statement calling for an immediate ceasefire and hostage release in Gaza has been issued by US, Egypt and Qatar.
The countries have said that there must not be any excuses or delay now and that the negotiation talks will be continued on August 15.
US, Egypt and Qatar Issue Joint Statement for Ceasefire amid Israel Hamas War
A joint statement has been issued by the leaders of Qatar, Egypt and the United States.
The nations are pushing for an immediate ceasefire and hostage release, to ‘put an end to the miseries of the residents of Gaza’.
‘No More Time Should Be Wasted, There Should Be No Excuses by Any Party’
The joint statement reads, “It is time, and immediately, to put an end to the long-standing suffering of the people of the Gaza Strip, as well as to the hostages and their families. It is time to finalize a ceasefire agreement and release the hostages and detainees.”
The statement further read, “Our three have struggled with our teams over several months to reach a framework agreement, which is now on the table and lacks but a completion of the details of implementation. This agreement is based on principles put forward by President Biden on May 31, 2024, which were supported by Security Council Resolution 2735.
No more time should be wasted, and there should be no excuses by any party for further postponement, it is time to release the hostages and start a ceasefire and implement this agreement. We, as intermediaries, are ready, if necessary, to put forward a final proposal to resolve the remaining matters of implementation and in a manner that meets the expectations of all parties.”
The statement ended with, “We have called on both sides to resume urgent talks on Thursday, August 15 in (Doha or Cairo) to fill all remaining gaps and start implementing the agreement without any delay.”
Killing of Hamas’ top political leader in Tehran raised tensions across the region, an escalation widely seen as a blow to cease-fire talks. The killing was widely ascribed to Israel, although Israel has not commented.
U.S. officials have said they believe Hamas can resume negotiations despite the July 31 assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, who had been presiding over the talks for Hamas.
