Chicago: In a shocking incident, the dead body of a woman was found entangled in baggage machinery at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago leading to a panic-like situation at the airport. As soon as the dead body was spotted on the luggage bag, the airport authority officials and security team rushed to the spot and the body was shifted to a mortuary. During the analysis of the CCTV footage, it was found that the woman herself walked into the luggage room.
A case has been registered into the matter and a probe has been launched. An inquiry has also been initiated after it was alleged that the firefighters and paramedics took over five hours to respond to the information.
Police Are Probing The Incident
Reports suggested that the firefighters responded to a call at the airport around 7.45 am after reports of a person trapped in baggage-handling machinery came to the fore.
According to Chicago Fire Department spokesperson Larry Langford, the woman was found entangled in a conveyor belt system in a baggage area. The police have identified her as a 57-year-old woman but have not yet released her name.
The spokesperson of the US Department of Labor stated that the baggage room where the woman was found was not publicly accessible. It is unclear how she found her way into it. She was not an airport employee either.
The woman was found unresponsive and pronounced dead on the scene. Detectives have opened an investigation into the matter.
The police communications office initially reported that the woman was found at 2.27 am, raising questions about why firefighters and paramedics took over five hours to respond. However, after clarifying with the police department, Langford explained that surveillance footage showed the woman walking in the baggage area at 2.27 am.
The communications office released a revised statement on Thursday afternoon, clarifying that surveillance video showed the woman entering the room at 2.27 am, but she was only discovered at 7.30 am, which led to the 911 call. The footage captures her walking but does not reveal what occurred subsequently.
