Importance of organ donation

Donating organs like kidneys, heart, pancreas, eyes and lungs can save the lives of people suffering from chronic diseases. Those suffering from organ failure get a new life and the evolution of medical technology over the years has debunked its myths.

Organ donation can be of two types, living donation and cadaver donation. While in the former process, the donor is alive, in a cadaver, the donor gives an organ or multiple organs after death. Donors who are alive mostly donate kidneys and parts of the liver as the latter can regenerate and a person can survive with a kidney as well. While any person can donate an organ with proper consent and following the required process, the health of the donor and the organs in question becomes important. The person should not have chronic illnesses like cancer, HIV, lung and heart disease.
