PKL season 11 player auction sets record for most crorepatis in league history on Independence Day

New Delhi: The first day of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) 2024 auction was an eventful day. Most of the players from Category A and B were bought by the teams ahead of season 11. The position of the league has grown over the years and the auction was in full flow on Thursday, August 15.

All the teams have made some great signings in the first half of the auction. Out of the 24 players who were up for the auction on Day 1, 20 have found their teams. Visvanath V, Rohit Gulia, Vishal Bhardwaj and Vaibhav Garje remained unsold on day 1 of the auction.

8 players cross INR 1 crore mark on Day 1

Sachin Tanwar was bought by Tamil Thalaivas for a whopping INR 2.15 crore in category A. All-rounder Mohammadreza Shadloui was snapped by Haryana Steelers for INR 2.07 crore. Star raider Pawan Sehrawat was retained by the Telugu Titans for INR 1.7 crore, using the FBM card. Maninder Singh was retained by the Bengal Warriorz  for INR 1.15 crore and Guman Singh joined the Gujarat Titans for INR 1.97 crore.

In category B, Bharat Hooda was picked by UP Yoddhas for INR 1.3 crore and Ajinkya Pawar was bought by Bengaluru Bulls for INR 1.1 crore. While U Mumba signed defender Sunil Kumar for INR 1.015 crore.

League Commissioner, Mr. Anupam Goswami said that it was riveting to watch multiple records being broken in the auction “It was absolutely riveting to watch multiple records being broken in the PKL Season 11 Player Auction. We are filled with pride to see 8 players cross the 1 crore mark today and Sunil become the most expensive Indian defender ever. The exciting buys will continue on day 2 and we are eagerly waiting for the action to unfold”.

Players reaction

Pardeep Narwal asked about joining the Bengaluru Bulls and the raider said that he feels good about going back to the team where he started his PKL journey “It feels really good to go back to the team I started with in my PKL journey. I’m looking forward to playing with the young players in the Bulls side. I am hoping to cross 1800 raid points in my career”.

Maninder Singh who was retained by Bengal Warriorz and said that he will look to perform even better for the team “I am very happy to be back. I will look to perform even better than last season and Bengal Warriorz has always been a home to me. The team is like a family and I have played with them for 6 years so I am very happy to be back”.
