‘I am one of the best spinners in the country’: R Sai Kishore feels ready to play Tests for India

New Delhi: Tamil Nadu red-ball format captain Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore believes that he is prepared to feature in India’s Test playing XI with the amount of confidence gained over the last few months. The lanky all-rounder had a terrific Ranji Trophy season in 2023-24, claiming 53 scalps in nine matches at 18.52 to finish as season’s leading wicket-taker.

He also led Tamil Nadu to the semi-final before they suffered defeat to the eventual champions Mumbai. This was Tamil Nadu’s first appearance in the knockout stage of the domestic premium after six years. After suffering a niggle in IPL 2024 due to an injury after playing golf, the 27-year-old returned to Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024 to lead Tiruppur Tamizhans.

Speaking to The New Indian Express about feeling confident with his training, the Tamil Nadu player said:

“I feel so confident because I have never trained in the block I have now. Maybe before getting into the IPL, I would have trained like this. Waking up at 4 am, training and then, bowling. I haven’t put in as many hours as I have this pre-season in the past four-five years. During the IPL, you don’t get time, you focus on recovery. After TNPL, I had a 15-20 day break, and used it to the best.”

“I feel I am one of the best spinners in the country. Put me in a Test match, I am ready. So, I am not worried too much,” he added.

R Sai Kishore to learn from Jadeja in Duleep Trophy

Sai Kishore will be part of Team B in the upcoming Duleep Trophy, where he will play with the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, a bowler similar to his bowling style. The Tamil Nadu player is confident of making to the Indian Test team and the excited to play with Jadeja in the team.

“Jadeja is there, I have never played alongside him. I have been with him in CSK, but never played together in red-ball format. So, it will be a good learning experience in terms of what he does. In saying that, I feel confident. So, I am ready more than ever,” he said.

Duleep Trophy will commence on September 5 with matches to be played in Bengaluru and Anantpur in Andhra Pradesh.
