New Delhi: India women’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has made a jump of one place to hold on to the third spot in the latest ODI batting rankings released on Tuesday. Mandhana, who was on the fourth position, took this leap in basis of her recent performance. Mandhana, with 738 rating points, is the top-ranked Indian player in the batting rankings.
Meanwhile, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has retained her ninth position on the women’s ODI batting charts. Sri Lanka’s star batter Chamari Athapaththu has slipped behind Mandhana to fourth place but compatriots Nilakshika de Silva (up three places to 32nd), Harshitha Samarawickrama (up eight places to 44th) and Kavisha Dilhari (up four places to 50th) moved up in the ODI batting rankings.
Mandhana holds onto T20 rankings
Mandhana also held on to her fourth spot in the T20 rankings with Sri Lanka’s Samarawickrama and Ireland opener Gaby Lewis reaching career high positions. Samarawickrama’s knock of 65 off 44 balls in the second T20I between Sri Lanka and Ireland helped her move up three places to 13th position while Lewis’s match-winning 119 off 75 balls has lifted her four places to a career-best-equalling 21st position that she had earlier attained in July 2022.
The Indian vice-captain delivered a good performance in the Women’s Asia Cup last month, which was the last time Mandhana played competitive cricket. Mandhana top-scored for India in the final vs Sri Lanka but unfortunately, her knock went in vain as India women lost the title match. Before the Asia Cup 2024, the Indian batter had played pivotal role in the series against South Africa.
The women’s team will battle it out next in the T20 World Cup 2024, which is scheduled to take place from October 3 in UAE. On Tuesday, the International Cricket Council changed the venue from Bangladesh to UAE because of the political unrest in the country.
