Women’s T20 World Cup shifted from Bangladesh to UAE

New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday shifted the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup from Bangladesh to United Arab Emirates (UAE). The step has been taken due to the prevailing social-political unrest in the country following the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The event, scheduled to take place from October 3 to 20, will now be staged in Dubai and Sharjah. ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said: “It is a shame not to be hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh as we know the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would have staged a memorable event.”

According to a report in Cricbuzz, the Board members/directors, who attended the ICC meeting virtually on Tuesday afternoon decided to change the venue as it was impossible to host the big-ticket event in Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has agreed to the shift and it will, however, continue to be the official host.
