Making India a Semiconductor hub
In 2022, PM Modi-led Union Cabinet gave the green signal to the Semicon India programme with a total outlay of Rs 76,000 crore for the development of semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem in our country. The programme was launched to provide financial support to companies investing in semiconductors, display manufacturing and design ecosystem.
Giving further impetus to the semiconductor programme, the Union Cabinet in February 2024 approved the establishment of three semiconductor units under ‘Development of Semiconductors and Display Manufacturing Ecosystems in India. In June, 2023, the Modi Cabinet had approved the proposal of Micron for setting up a semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat.
Three semiconductor units
Semiconductor Fab with 50,000 wfsm capacity in Dholera, Gujarat with an investment worth Rs 91,000 crore.
Semiconductor ATMP unit in Assam with an investment of Rs 27,000 crore.
Semiconductor ATMP unit for specialised chips. This semiconductor unit will be set up in Sanand, Gujarat with an investment of Rs 7,600 crore.
