New Delhi: A person who kills two or three people in a row over a considerable amount of time in different incidents is known as a serial killer (also known as a serial murderer). The motivation behind the killings is psychological gratification, and many serial killings include sexual contact with the victims at various stages of the crime.

According to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), serial killers may carry out killings as a means of gaining attention, money, or satisfaction from rage or other emotional states. There are commonalities among the victims in terms of their appearance, gender, race, and demographic profile.

Although a serial killer is a distinct classification that differs from that of a mass murderer, spree killer, or contract killer, there are overlaps between them.
