Lombardy (Italy): Fabrizio Longo, an Audi executive who headed the Italy operations for the company, died after falling 10,000 feet off a mountain while he was ascending the Cima Payer near the Italian-Swiss Border, in the Adamello Mountains. Longo, who was an avid mountain climber was equipped with safety gears but unfortunately couldn’t survive.

Fabrizio Longo was climbing Cima Payer in Adamello mountains near the Italian-Swiss Border when according to a leading English daily, he slipped and fell 10,000 feet; his fellow-climber, who witnessed the accident immediately prompted the rescue teams who responded and soon located his body.
The Audi executive’s body was found about 700 feet down a gorge and was located by the rescue teams; the body was then transported to a hospital in Carisolo by a helicopter retrieval team for examination.
The accident took place despite Longo being equipped with ladders and steel cables among other safety aids.
An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances under which Fabrizio Longo died; the autopsy other formalities have been completed.
International Ski and Snowboard Federation Issues Statement
The Chief of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation issued a statement condoling the death of Fabrizio Longo.
The statement read, “A terrible loss for the federation that has collaborated fruitfully with Longo for years. We join the family in this moment of great pain, and with the staff of Audi Italia.”
